Blender Care and Maintenance

So you think it's "so easy a caveman could do it." One manual warns that children should not be allowed to play with blenders! Are these standard issues for toy boxes? Do we all need to be told that a blender should be turned off after use, or that placing the motor or cord in water can result in electrical shock? How about: "the blades are sharp," and "keep hands and utensils out of container while blending." Obviously more than one person has done these things, and new owners are being warned not to repeat the blunders.

Blender Cleaning

Here we go again: "Do not soak base in water," stated in two sections. Companies are obviously following the advice of an accountant who once told me, "cover all your assets," to avoid law suits.

Disassemble hand blenders and kitchen blenders before cleaning. The jar, lid, filler cap, and sealing ring should be washed in warm soapy water. Blades should be brushed clean under warm water, taking care to keep the underneath as dry as possible. The blades should then be air-dried. (Blades should not go into the dishwasher.) Lemon juice should be used for cleaning spots on the blade assembly.

The jar and lid are dishwasher-safe. Heat from the dishwasher can affect rubber rings, so they should also be hand-washed. The blender base (or the wand of the Breville hand blender) should be wiped clean with a damp cloth before splashes and drips harden into the control buttons.

Final Note
Using attachments not intended for your Cuisinart blender can cause damage or injury. Unplug the Oster blender when it is not in use, and do not use with damaged power cord. If the base has been dropped or if the cord is damaged, consult a professional or authorized dealer. Oh, and read all instructions.
